The “amaqikisa” (a maiden engaged to be married) is given a little more freedom in her traditional rural community. Here too she is allowed some leeway to enjoy herself with her closest friends. Starting at around 1pm the bachelorette and sisterhood friends and family are collected in typical Soweto taxis and transported through an experience ranging from a bunjee jump, private function “chill-out “ room to a shebeen-crawl through the taverns and shebeens of Soweto. Sometimes even joining the current house parties.
